I couldn't agree with you more. Time to start drinking in anticipation of Spring.

Up here in the frozen tundras of upstate New York, I eagerly await the release of bronchitis so that I may enjoy a hoppy pleasure, possibly as soon as this weekend. For the last three weeks, this winter has seemed as if George Lucas was designing my outdoors as a set for a return episode of Star Wars on the planet Hoth. It's too bad Mr. Lucas is not entertaining that idea, there are several out of work friends of mine who could work in the film crew. There is even a blind governor who seems to have lost his way and is experimenting with the dark side of the force.

It is because the winter can be so unforgivably and deadly cold up here that the mere mention of spring and your eloquent beer recommendations reminded me that I wanted to kill that silly innocent animal from Punxsutawney. It has been an insufferably gray winter here, and your brilliant blog post is a reminder that yes, I probably need to soothe the soul with a fine ale, remembering the joys of color and life from spring versus the monochromatic dullness of the ice and dirty snow.

I offer for my virtual online toast, a Victory Hop Devil ale. It's a favorite of mine, and on the very rare occasion that I will have a beer, I love microbrews, and a Victory Hop Devil is a delight any time of year. They also have a seasonal brew, available in the next few weeks entitled a "whirlwind wit." I am sure it is always a favorite during government budget negotiations. I would be remiss not to mention that Victory Brewing company is in Downingtown, PA. http://www.victorybeer.com

Since I am feeling particularly vengeful, probably due to the sore ribs from my never ending cough, perhaps a stronger push for spring may be needed. In this regard I recommend a brew from the Stone Brewing Company, north county San Diego, who's "Arrogant Bastard Ale" is a real treat. It can really break the ice, and any beer motto that is "You're Not Worthy" (tm) is clearly letting everyone know that you are indeed sick of winter and in need of a spring.

I do have to suggest a visit from my southern kin, maybe in the late summer as the horses run in Saratoga? Saratoga is the real reason there is any population living up here in the currently bitterly frozen wastes. I was reminded on my brief vacation that even Disney World has a Saratoga imitation, so maybe I am not so crazy to love it up here.

Love the Blog! I have to comment on the turntable and music in general. Much Love and hugs from your northern poetry loving brethren.

I am looking forward to a may/june escape to visit the southern kin, and the details will be worked out soon.

Great question. I think both the Copperhook and Sierra Nevada (which would be geographically as well as seasonally appropriate) would do nicely. Of course, I like to drink locally whenever I travel (I'm thinking of a particular night in Taunton and some incredible cider) and would suggest hitting the Interweb to see what brewpubs will be in the area. Check out this site, http://www.brewpubzone.com/States/Arizona.html, for starters. Oak Creek in Sedona, for example, looks promising, and I suspect they will have something seasonal (and maybe properly "Oirish") on tap. Good luck and report back with your discoveries!

So, of course, I knew from the first sentence we would be talking about groundhogs.
The Copperhook sounds particularly appealing.
Now, here's the challenge. What beer does one drink on St. Patrick's Day when traveling through the American Southwest with 3 young children and a guy who is more Irish than the people living on the Emerald Isle?? (The answer, "anything, as long as there is a lot of it," I have already deduced, so think of something else.)
